Job Summary
Health Workforce Canada was established in 2023 to strengthen health workforce data and planning to ensure health workers are there to provide the care people need. With our partners, we are bringing together health workforce experts and those in the health care field to learn from each other and to create a cost-effective and sustainable health care system. The ultimate goal is to help ensure health workers are there to provide the care people in Canada need. We have already made significant progress in engaging stakeholders, sharing dynamic health workforce data dashboards, and advancing health human resource modelling and forecasting.
Reporting to the Head of Technology, the Web and Integration Developer is responsible for leading the design, implementation, and operation of enhancements to Health Workforce Canada’s web site, in support of the organization’s program and operational priorities. Health Workforce Canada is at the leading edge of technology adoption, utilizing modern technology platforms and methodologies to provide uniquely valuable digital services to a sector in need. The Web and Integration Developer plays a big role in a small and mighty technology team, and is expected to bring a breadth of IT experience, enthusiasm in grasping and applying new concepts and technologies, confidence in working beyond the scope of front-end, and an ability to partner with the business to lead required technological change.
As a highly organized professional with strong time management and communication skills, this position delivers on the tasks of the job while contributing to Health Workforce Canada’s overall vision to improve the use of and knowledge of health workforce data to support better care for Canadians.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides project-based custom design development and enhancements and daily operational support for the website.
- Manages and implements ongoing web postings in a fast-paced environment working with the Communications team and other business leaders across the organization.
- Provides web leadership within Health Workforce Canada digital solution development teams, with ability to work beyond the web layer of the technology stack to help the team be successful.
- Provides expert consult based on experience and best practices and enhances web navigation working closely with Communications and other leaders to enhance the user experience.
- Maintains the organization’s visual brand through web channel.
- Ensures Health Workforce Canada website adheres to AODA compliance.
- Develops and distributes the Health Workforce Canada newsletter, approximately monthly, through Mail Chimp.
- Pulls web and newsletter metrics in a timely way to ensure ongoing learning and improvements for Health Workforce Canada leaders.
- Collaborates with team members on the research, evaluation, development, implementation and testing of functional and operational enhancements. This includes working directly with other technical subject matter experts in developing, implementing, and operating integrated technology solutions.
- Able to work in an agile work environment, participating in regular stand-ups, estimate duration and work effort as required.
- Works with the team to analyze business needs and formulate solutions.
- Contributes to the annual analysis, testing, and documentation Disaster Recovery exercise as it pertains to the Website.
- Produces technical and business process documentation, and reviews accuracy and quality of technical documentation provided by peers and vendors.
- Addresses, triages, escalates as necessary and resolves impediments and issues related to the website.
- Collaborates with team members to share system-specific knowledge and participates in training programs and knowledge transfer sessions.
- Contributes to change management processes ensuring that the promotion of code changes to the production environment follows best practices and minimizes impact on the organization.
- Identifies, specifies, and delivers changes required, monitors changes completed and ensures documentation is updated as required.
- Works with third party vendors as needed.
- Performs other duties and ad hoc projects as required.

Qualifications
- University Undergraduate Degree in computer science, information technology, or other relevant discipline, or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role.
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of WordPress, HTML, JavaScript/jQuery, CSS, Python, PHP, Mail Chimp, and web services.
- Experience with process automation; e.g. developing scripts to support testing and operations, working with content management workflow tools.
- Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive).
- Nice to have skills to include Amazon Web Services (or other cloud providers), SQL, Python, Typescript and Node.js. Experience with any BI tools is also an asset.
- Fluency in English is required, bilingualism in both official languages is an asset.
- Ability to meet travel requirements.
Location:
Virtual part-time employment opportunity with in-person team meetings a few times per year, for a maximum of 3 consecutive days
Working hours:
7.50 hours per day
This position may involve flexible working hours (i.e. evenings and weekends) for Disaster Recovery, system maintenance and new deployments
