Health Workforce Canada (“HWC”, “we”, “us”, “our”) is a not-for-profit corporation that convenes and collaborates with health sector partners to advance approaches to current and future health workforce challenges. Health Workforce Canada’s (HWC’s) mandate includes strengthening health workforce data and planning to help ensure health workers are there to provide the care people in Canada need.

The following sets out Health Workforce Canada’s (HWC’s) policy and practices in regard to the personal information that it collects, uses and discloses in the course of carrying out its mandate. In this policy, “personal information” means information about an identifiable individual. Personal information does not include information about an individual in his or her professional capacity, for example job titles and workplace contact information.

Our website may contain links to third-party websites. Please note that we have no control over and are not responsible for the privacy practices of other website owners or operators or the content of their websites. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party websites you link to through our website.  Health Workforce Canada (HWC) does not endorse the use of any third-party website or any products or services offered through such websites, or otherwise by their owners or operators. Any links to third-party websites are provided solely as a convenient reference to other sites that may be of interest to visitors to our website. 

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. We will post the updated policy on our website and indicate the “Last Updated” date at the top. Your continued use of our website after any changes to this policy signify your acceptance of the revised terms.

Collection. Health Workforce Canada (HWC) collects personal information that individuals voluntarily provide to us, through our website. The personal information may include but is not necessarily limited to name, email address, phone number and other contact information. Health Workforce Canada (HWC) also collects information electronically about the device and system that individuals use to access our website. This information may be but is not generally personal information and includes but is not necessarily limited to IP address, browser type, device information, operating system, and usage data.

Electronic Collection/Cookie notice. Cookies are small pieces of data (text files) that are saved on your computer or mobile device when you visit a website so that information can be saved between visits, such as your login credentials or language preferences.

Health Workforce Canada (HWC) uses Google Analytics to assist us in gathering data about the use of our website, monitoring its performance, and evaluating its effectiveness. By communicating with us electronically, you consent to Health Workforce Canada (HWC) sending you “commercial electronic messages”, as defined in CASL (messages that by their content, hyperlinks to content on a website or database, or the contact information they contain, encourage participation in a commercial activity, such as advertising or promoting a product or service. Use. We use the personal information we collect directly from you to respond to your requests for information and to send you materials, including our newsletter where you sign up to receive our news and updates. We use the information we collect electronically to evaluate our website content and functionality in the interest of seeing whether we can enhance the experience of and otherwise better serve our website visitors.

Disclosure.  We may disclose personal information we collect to the Canadian Institute for Health Information (https://www.cihi.ca/en), and other organizations to facilitate their work. 

Third Party Service Providers.  Health Workforce Canada (HWC) uses the services of third-party service providers for functions that include maintaining our website and database, among other functions.  To the extent that any of the service providers require access to personal information, our contract with the service provider requires that it limit its access and use of the information to that required to provide the services and that they have appropriate safeguards in place to protect the information. If you have questions about any access to personal information that we may need to provide such service providers, please reach out to our privacy officer whose contact information is set out below. 

Access/Correction.  You may contact our privacy officer to review the personal information about you in our records, or to update or otherwise correct your personal information. We rely on you to update your contact information and to advise us if you no longer want us to communicate with you. 

Security.  The technical safeguards implemented by HWC follow industry standards and are designed to protect personal information against theft, loss and unauthorized use or disclosure.

Compliance. If you have questions about our practices in connection with personal information that are not answered in this policy or our compliance with this policy in connection with your personal information, we encourage you to reach out to our privacy officer.
