About the Organization
Health Workforce Canada is a pan-Canadian, not-for-profit organization dedicated to transforming health workforce planning across Canada. The organization was launched in late 2023 with a mandate to be a catalyst for system transformation of health workforce planning in Canada. We do this by advancing health workforce data and information, forecasting and modelling, sharing innovations that are working well across the country, as well as to connect the many stakeholders in health workforce planning across Canada and internationally to strengthen collaboration and collective action.
Health Workforce Canada is focused on supporting leaders in the health system to co-design health workforce planning solutions that will achieve a better system for tomorrow. This work includes a health workforce conference, as well as targeted priority health workforce planning initiatives with leaders across Canada and the health system.
The Opportunity
This Program Specialist, Partnership and Priority Initiatives position is responsible for leading and supporting activities that drive forward Health Workforce Canada’s events and partnership initiatives, as well as engagement strategies overall. These activities include but are not limited to project and events management, development of virtual and in-person workshops, creation of co-designed action plans, and the building of learning materials, briefing notes, reports, and presentations. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in organizing events, managing logistics, and ensuring projects run smoothly. You will work closely with internal teams and external partners to execute initiatives that advance Health Workforce Canada’s mission.
Key Responsibilities
- Plans, project manages, and coordinates Health Workforce Canada events such as large conferences, virtual learning webinars, in-person workshops and other stakeholder engagement events with health system leaders.
- Works closely with the PPI Lead on executing event timelines, budgets, and vendor relationships.
- Works closely with conference event vendor in all aspects of event roll out.
- Contributes innovative ideas according to event best practices for high quality execution.
- Coordinates and/or supports sponsorships and partner outreach activities.
- Participates in internal and working groups, and post-event evaluations.
- Actively contributes to the procurement and management of event external vendors, as needed.
- Project manages the planning and execution of priority initiatives, ensuring deliverables are met on time, on budget and within scope.
- Tracks project milestones and maintain detailed documentation.
- Prepares project reports, presentations, and related briefing materials on the execution of events/priority initiatives for the team and organization, as required.
- Assess and manage risks related to the planning and execution of projects, and regularly apply problem solving skills to troubleshoot emerging issues.
- Supports the planning and execution of projects focused on Health Workforce Canada priority initiatives.
- Leads and/or supports internal and external consultations on emerging topics.
- Conducts research, environmental scanning, literature reviews, fact-checking, and other information gathering, analyses, and synthesis activities.
- Prepares documents (including briefing notes, reports, etc.) on key strategic initiatives.
- Makes recommendations on approaches to/development of new engagement strategies/initiatives.
- Participates with PPI team on external committees, presentations and/or attendance at conferences and other activities, as required.
- Participates in a matrix team model, working across the organization to provide support and initiate/develop engagement opportunities, as needed.
What We’re Looking For
- University degree in health sciences, social sciences, health information, health policy, event management, or equivalent combination of experience/education.
- 2-4 years working with health human resources or health care, with events and project management experience.
- Strong understanding of Canada’s health workforce environment and the range of stakeholders in the health workforce ecosystem.
- Solid understanding of Canada’s broader health system structure, federal provincial governments, and decision maker information needs.
- Excellent project management, verbal and written communication, interpersonal, facilitation and presentation skills.
- Experience with stakeholder engagement, client support, education and communications planning in the health sector is an asset.
- Demonstrated leadership skills, results oriented, a critical thinker, adaptable, innovative, creative, and flexible.
- Highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience in or openness to work with innovative technology, including but not limited to artificial intelligence tools and other generative business intelligence tools.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a matrix team.
- Ability to meet travel requirements.
- Fluency in English and French is required.

Remote work opportunity with in-person team meetings a few times per year, for a maximum of 3 consecutive days
