Web Developer (Part-time)

Job Summary

Health Workforce Canada (HWC) is a new, independent organization created to bring together health workforce experts and those in the health care field to learn from each other and to strengthen health workforce data and planning, with a goal to ensuring health workers are there to provide the care people in Canada need.

As this new organization comes online, HWC has identified several early priorities to help address key health human resources (HHR) issues in Canada. These priorities include pan-Canadian stakeholder engagement, the establishment of a set of HHR communities of practice, and the development of data dashboards and early HHR forecasting work.

Reporting to the CFO, the Web Developer is responsible for coordination and provides support to deliver on program/project objectives. As a highly organized professional with strong time management skills, this position delivers on the tasks of the job while contributing to HWC’s overall vision to improve the use of and knowledge of health workforce data to support better care for Canadians.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides project-based custom design development and enhancements and daily operational support for the website.
  • Collaborates with team members on the research, evaluation, development implementation and testing for new functionality.
  • Able to work in an agile work environment, participating in regular stand-ups, estimate duration and work effort as required.
  • Works with the team to analyze business needs and formulate solutions.
  • Contributes to the annual analysis, testing, and documentation Disaster Recovery exercise as it pertains to the Website.
  • Creates software according to established coding standards, participates in code-reviews to ensure standards are met, ensures code is appropriately documented.
  • Produces technical and business process documentation, and reviews accuracy and quality of technical documentation provided by peers and vendors.
  • Addresses, triages, escalates as necessary and resolves impediments and issues related to the website.
  • This position may involve flexible working hours (i.e. evenings and weekends) for Disaster Recovery, system maintenance and new deployments
  • Collaborates with team members to share system specific knowledge and participates in training programs and knowledge transfer sessions.
  • Contributes to change management processes ensuring that the promotion of code changes to the production environment follows best practices and minimizes impact on the organization
  • Identifies, specifies, and delivers changes required, monitors changes completed and ensures documentation is updated as required
  • Works with third party vendors as needed
  • Performs other duties and ad hoc projects as required.
  • This role is new to the organization and will evolve as the organization grows.

Qualifications

  • University Undergraduate Degree in computer science, information technology, or other relevant discipline, or an acceptable combination of education and experience
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role 
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of WordPress, HTML, JavaScript/jQuery, CSS PHP, and Linux
  • Experience working with source code management using git is required to both manage version control and deployment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft 365 (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive)
  • Nice to have skills to include SQL, Python, Typescript and Node.js. Experience with any BI tools is also an asset.
  • Fluency in English is required, bilingualism in both official languages is an asset 
  • Ability to meet travel requirements
