Business Operations Lead

Job Summary

Reporting to the Director, Engagement and Operations, the Business Operations Lead position is responsible for ensuring Health Workforce Canada runs smoothly and ensuring that the organization’s work gets accomplished on time and on budget with minimal issues.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works with team management to learn departmental needs and goals
  • Ensures that all activities conform to company standards
  • Observes, reviews and analyzes processes to identify inefficiencies and areas where improvements could be made
  • Provides support to Director Engagement and Operations in the areas of budget management, procurement, contracting for professional services, performance measurement and public reporting/reporting to funder(s)
  • Manges competing priorities, deadlines and business approaches to ensure smooth operations 
  • Evaluates business processes and activities and implements new ideas for changes and improvement
  • Supports the Board activities, including managing the Board portal and supporting Board communications
  • Participates in matrix team model across the organization to provide support to other parts of the startup
  • Contributes to the operation and promotion of HWC through participation on internal and external committees, presentations and/or attendance at conferences and other activities, as required.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Post-secondary degree in business, management, finance. or other relevant field, or equivalent combination of experience/education
  • Proven work experience as an operations lead in a similar role
  • Strong organizational and time management skills and demonstrated attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build strong relations with colleagues
  • Demonstrated planning and problem-solving skill abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively to achieve organizational and program objectives
  • Ability to effectively forge, manage and maintain relationships
  • Proven organizational abilities and the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines under pressure
  • Excellent teamwork, interpersonal and customer service skills including the ability to work respectfully and inclusively with a diverse employee population
  • Good verbal and written communication, interpersonal, facilitation and presentation skills
  • Ability to lead and work collaboratively within a matrix team
  • Ability to meet travel requirements
  • Fluency in English is required, bilingualism in both official languages is an asset.

About Health Workforce Canada

Health Workforce Canada is a new, independent, not-for-profit organization funded by Health Canada. It was established by an Interim Steering Committee with support from the Canadian Institute for Health Information (CIHI) in the fall of 2023.

The organization will work closely with CIHI and all health system stakeholders to plan, build and support a strong, healthy workforce to enhance health outcomes for all people in Canada. 

In its start-up phase, Health Workforce Canada has identified early priorities to help address key health human resources issues in Canada. These priorities include pan-Canadian stakeholder engagement, the establishment of communities of practice, the development of data dashboards, and early modelling and forecasting.
